After the season 5 premiere of the hit AMC TV show "Breaking Bad" raked in 2.9 million viewers, expectations were high for the season's next episode. So when the first part of the plot called for a scene at a food-testing facility in Hanover, Germany, workers had to get creative.
In a behind-the-scenes video by AMC, director Michelle MacLaren explained how the team worked to transform a local high school on location in Albuquerque, N.M., into a German corporate building.
'To make this realistic for Germany, each department did their own research. So wardrobe did research, and the art department did research, the props department did research to make everything authentic," MacLaren said.
Assistant prop master Trina Siopy also noted the team had to nail down several cultural differences.
"We have a couple German police that we had to research what they actually wear," Siopy said in the video. "They don't wear the normal badges that we do in America. Everything is patches."
According to MacLaren, the building was chosen because it has a cooking school -- a convincing stand-in for a food-testing facility.
Of course, Albuquerque isn't the only city to have one of its schools featured on television.
New Jersey's Ridgefield Park Junior Senior High School is serving as a set for a new TV pilot titled "Under the Radar," the Ridgefield Park Patriot reports.
According to the paper, some of the students will even be featured as extras.
Similarly, the old Quincy High School in Massachusetts got a taste of Hollywood when the crew of the Kevin James film "Here Comes the Boom" set up shop in the hallways, the Boston Globe reports.
The vacant school was originally set to be demolished last year, according to the Patriot Ledger.
