'Breastmilk' Trailer Reveals The Good, The Bad And The Unknown Of Breastfeeding

When Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein produced their documentary, The Business Of Being Born, their motivation for the film was not to politicize childbirth, but to start a conversation. And they did. As Lake and Epstein explained in a blog post last fall, discussions sparked by the film ranged from co-sleeping to circumcision. But one topic stood out to the two above anything else: Breastfeeding.

And so, after seeing a cut of the documentary Breastmilk by filmmaker Dana Ben-Ari, they knew they wanted to be involved with its production.

CAVU Pictures plans to premiere the film in select theaters beginning May 7. As shown in the trailer above, it delves into parents' lives -- mothers, fathers, those gay and straight -- who succeed, don't succeed, or want to succeed at feeding their child breast milk or formula. Much like the "I Support You Campaign" that we launched last year on HuffPost, the trailer shines light on support, understanding and according to the film's synopsis, the "breathtakingly diverse experience of modern parenthood itself."

"We are helping generate honest conversations and questions about biology, gender, sexuality and community,” said Ben-Ari.
