Brentwood Hit And Run: Julia Siegler, 13 year-old Harvard Westlake Student, Struck and Killed (VIDEO)

LAPD Source: Infiniti Involved In Hit-And-Run Is In Custody, Driver Has Been Identified...

UPDATE: The LAPD has ruled the incident to be an accident, and no charges have been filed against the drivers involved. The LA Times reports today:

Two drivers who struck a 13-year-old girl who was crossing Sunset Boulevard on her way to catch her school bus have not been charged in her death, Los Angeles police announced late Friday.

The preliminary investigation into the Friday morning incident raises the possibility that it was a tragic accident rather than a hit-and-run crime, as was initially believed, said Los Angeles police Capt. Nancy Lauer.

"At this point, we have not arrested nor have we booked either of the drivers," she said. "It appears to be a horrible accident."

KTLA reports:

According to a preliminary investigation, the girl was trying to get on a school bus in the area of Sunset Boulevard and Cliffwood Avenue just before 7:20 a.m. Friday when she was struck by a Mercedes-Benz.

According to the LA Times:

The Mercedes struck the girl while turning the corner, police said. The driver apparently stopped after the accident but then left, said sources familiar with the investigation.

The Times adds:

A black, four-door "sporty" Toyota made a turn directly after the Mercedes, but police did not know if it hit the girl. The Toyota was carrying four passengers, and the driver pulled to the curb and talked with the mother, police said. Both cars left the scene before police arrived.

From the LA Weekly:

Police later confirmed the story of a Mercedes driver stopping to speak with the girl's mother. "The driver of that car, described as a male in a black or gray Mercedes, was making a right turn onto Sunset Boulevard ... when he struck this young girl, and ultimately she was killed,'' Los Angeles Police Department Commander Andrew Smith said.

The girl was identified as Harvard-Westlake Middle School student Julia Siegler. She died at a hospital.

Investigators also were looking for several young people in a gray Toyota who may have witnessed the accident or been involved in it, authorities said.
