Brian Gallagher: 'Income Inequality Is Not Surprising'

Brian Gallagher, President and Chief Executive Officer of United Way, told HuffPost Live it's hard to talk about income inequality because such a large issue "is not black and white."

"Almost everything in the world is not black and white. If you just look at the U.S., we have the largest income gap we've had since the 1920s," Gallagher said. "But, the number of people who have come out of poverty... access to health care, access to information in the world economy are incredibly positive signs."

Though he said "income inequality at a macro, long-term level is not good," he also said it wasn't surprising because of the rapidly changing

Gallagher also weighed in on charity, saying it brings people together.

"Charity in my mind and in my experience is just the business model, a formal process and procedure to allow people to act on what's human," Gallagher said.

Gallagher said charity is "not about extracting people's money," but about connecting people.

"When we do it well is when we allow people to accelerate and intensify in scale," Gallagher said.
