Despite some questionable behavior in the past, Britney Spears has managed to maintain a remarkably loyal fan base. So loyal, in fact, that an army of her devotees lept to Brit's defense after Lucky magazine's cover shoot with the singer didn't exactly resemble the pop star they know and love.
It's not uncommon for a glossy's cover to receive less-than-stellar reviews, since everyone seems to have their own opinions on what looks best on celebrities. But Lucky received an unusually-fierce backlash from fans accusing the mag of putting an unflattering wig on the "X-Factor" judge and excessive use of retouching. The retaliation method of choice? Twitter.
Brit aficionados took to the social networking site to chastise Lucky for putting the 30-year-old in a "horrendous wig" and making her look unrecognizable. "Did @britneyspears even show up for the photoshoot or did you just photoshop her face on a body[?]" a fan tweeted at the magazine. Ouch!
Unable to ignore the poor reviews on Twitter, Lucky apologized to readers, tweeting, "We're sorry to have let some of you down." Check out the cover in question and Lucky's apology tweet below. Do you think the strong response was merited?
