Looks like Britney Spears may be stepping away from the judges table and back into the studio.

Spears confirmed that she is "working hard" on a new album during a Twitter Q&A session with her fans on Sunday, MTV News reported. She is "excited" and has been "collaborating with some new inspiring producers."

Spears is also teaming up with Grammy-nominated songwriter Elijah Blake, who has worked with the likes of Usher, Rihanna and Ciara.

During an interview with hip-hop blog That Grape Juice, Blake opened up about the "unexpected" direction of Spears' new album.

"I think her fans will be surprised by it," he told That Grape Juice. "I would say its definitely the ‘unexpected’ Britney in so many ways, in that she’s playing with new textures and stomping on new grounds and genres... From talking to her she’s definitely trying to push the envelope this time -- and really talk from a more personal point of view and with Rodney Jerkins by her side I’m hella excited."

"This album is gonna be crazy!" he continued. "I write from a more cerebral place I would say. My lyrics are more like a conversation or a thought process, I want people to hear my songs and think, honesty. I’d love to share that with her as well. She’s so cool and down to earth and she gives off so much confidence that writing with her is easy."

Spears last album, "Femme Fatale," dropped in March 2011, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with hit singles "Hold It Against Me" and "Til the World Ends." Most recently she collaborated with will.i.am on his new single, "Scream & Shout."

When asked about her future as a judge on "The X Factor" during the Q&A, Spears said, "Really focused on my music right now."

Rumors surfaced last week that Spears will be fired from "X Factor" after just one season due to her lackluster performance, according to Us Weekly. Simon Cowell reportedly hoped for "crazy Britney" when he offered her the $15 million contract, but got "boring Britney" instead. "They paid all that for her to say 'amazing' and offer half-claps," a source told the magazine.
