Atlantic Records says digital sales have surpassed CD sales. Atlantic claims that more than half of its music sales in the US are now digital, which includes mp3s and ringtones. During the 4Q, digital represented 27% of its US based recorded music revenue.
Blockbuster announced that it will sell a set-top box for on-demand movies. The box will retail for $99 and will include 25 free movie downloads, while the normal cost to download will run around $3.99 (to watch for 24 hours). The move comes on the heels of Netflix launching a similar service in May.
For the first time in its history, e-commerce sales have slipped. The industry, which has grown nearly 15% year over year, took a hit this past month with a 4% drop over the same time last year. comScore says spending will be flat this year, especially compared to last years 19% growth increase.
