Brooklyn Collective Fixing The Planet One Object At A Time (VIDEO)

In these days of increasing disposable commodities, few people would bother with the effort of trying to repair a broken item, or perhaps not even imagine it to be possible. Most consumers are habituated to trash the old, and buy a new one without thinking twice.

One group of curiously creative individuals is setting out to end this cycle of growing garbage.

Umbra from GristTV heads to Brooklyn to visit the Fixers' Collective, a weekly gathering that explores improvisational ways of mending busted objects. Working out of the Proteus Gowanus gallery, the Collective have specialized in repairing umbrellas, among other items disposed daily. Keen to approach any challenge, their example is an excellent reminder that we should all consider the greener possibilities before throwing out our seemingly damaged products.
