Bryan Cranston will play a mild-mannered man living a normal suburban life -- or so his wife thinks -- in an upcoming new film. When she comes to suspect that he's having an affair, she ultimately finds out he has a hidden identity in a dark criminal world.
Unfortunately, it's not a "Breaking Bad" spinoff. But "Holland, Michigan" will still be appealing to fans of the AMC show and Walter White.
Director Errol Morris said Cranston would appear in the film on Reddit this weekend while holding an Ask Me Anything (AMA) session with Werner Herzog and Joshua Oppenheimer to publicize their Oscar-nominated documentary, "The Act of Killing," which Morris executive produced.
"I'm making a dramatic feature this year with Bryan Cranston, Naomi Watts, and Édgar Ramírez. Wish me well," Morris wrote in response to a fan's question if documentaries were his main focus.
The Wrap reports the three actors will star in "Holland, Michigan." The script, written by Andrew Sodroski, got a nod as the top unproduced screenplay last year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Morris described the film as a “Hitchcock-like movie" to the Boston Globe. It's set at a tulip festival -- a real thing that happens every year in the small Dutch town in Michigan.
According to the Wrap, Watts, who was nominated for an Oscar last year for her performance in "The Impossible," stars in the "darkly humorous" thriller as a teacher who suspects her husband is cheating. She begins an affair of her own with a coworker, played by Ramírez, who's appeared in "The Bourne Ultimatum" and "Zero Dark 30." Through the affair, Watt's character discovers her husband is actually a serial killer.
Because if there's anyone we want to watch viciously murder people on screen, it's obviously Cranston.
