Bryan Fischer Compares Kermit Gosnell Case To Holocaust

Pundit Compares Abortion Doctor's Alleged Crimes To Holocaust

American Family Association spokesman Bryan Fischer raised some eyebrows on Saturday by comparing the alleged crimes of abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell to the Holocaust.

Gosnell is currently on trial for the alleged murder of seven infants and one woman. He has pleaded not guilty.

Fischer, an outspoken opponent of abortion, also referred to Gosnell as "Philidelphia's Hitler."

"Meanstream media finally to cover Philadelphia's Auschwitz where 100 babies had their spines severed," he tweeted, apparently in reference to a claim that Steven Massof, one of the accused, made to the grand jury. "How much time did major networks devote last night to Philadelphia's Hitler? Zero, zip, nada, zilch."

As one Twitter user responded, "Um. Hey, hey. No."

A debate has been brewing over coverage of the trial, with some conservative bloggers and lawmakers accusing the media of burying the story. But, as Salon's Irin Carmon points out, there was plenty of coverage of the crimes when the news first broke in 2011.

Fischer is no stranger to controversy. Earlier this week, he compared the backlash against homophobia in America to Nazi Germany.

Clarification: This post has been updated to include additional, possible context for Fischer's remarks.
