Bryan Roehr Threatened To Pipe-Bomb Toddler's Room Over Unpaid Debt, Cops Say

Cops: Man Threatened To Put Pipe Bomb In 2-Year-Old's Bedroom

A suburban Chicago man appeared in DuPage County Court Friday on explosives charges, with authorities claiming that he threatened to bomb the bedroom of a two-year-old child.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, police first began investigating Bryan Roehr when they received a tip from the child's mother. Roehr claimed that the woman owed him money, and he allegedly said that the child's room would be a "good place" to plant a pipe bomb if he wasn't repaid.

Police then executed a search warrant on Roehr's Wood Dale home, just west of O'Hare Airport, where they found three pounds of volatile chemicals, fuses, threaded pipes, and cardboard tubes, the Chicago Tribune reports.

When Roehr was brought into custody, authorities learned more about his history with explosives. The Daily Herald reports that he learned to build bombs by watching YouTube videos. He has also apparently detonated a number of explosive devices around the area. He blew up a trash bin outside the Grace-Gospel Center in nearby Bensenville, apparently as a test explosion to see the power of his bombs, investigators say, and has set off four or five other explosions around the county.

Roehr, 24, is currently being held on $750,000 bail. If convicted of the most serious crimes, he could face between four and 30 years in prison.
