Authorities are still searching for a toddler from the Chicago suburb of Maywood after he was reportedly snatched from his mother by three men Tuesday afternoon.
A statewide Amber Alert has been issued for 1-year-old Bryeon Hunter after he was reportedly kidnapped by "three male Hispanic males in a black two door sports car with tinted windows," according to the alert.
(4/18/13 UPDATE: Police are saying that Bryeon is presumed dead and are questioning his mother's account of the toddler's alleged abduction.)
Describing the scene, Bryeon's mom Lakeshia Baker, 23, said they were leaving McDonald’s near the intersection of 5th and Main Street in west suburban Maywood on foot when a black sports car pulled up and the three men kidnapped just her, the Tribune reports.
According to WGN, Baker said the men then drove to a nearby woods where they beat her before driving back to the area where she was first abducted. After kicking her out of the car, they took off with Bryeon. Brenda Lloyd, Bryeon's grandmother, said her daughter sustained “a punctured lung, two black eyes, a fractured rib and bruises."
Baker also told investigators she argued several days ago with the same men who abducted her, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Tuesday night authorities had named three men who they believed took Bryeon, but as of Wednesday morning, they had been cleared of wrongdoing, according to a release.
Bryeon is described as a black male, 2-feet tall and weighing 30 pounds. He is listed as last seen wearing a blue striped long sleeve shirt, blue jeans, and blue and brown Nike boots.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Maywood Police Department at 708-450-4471.
