Bulls, Rahm Break Ground On New $25 Million Practice Facility

The Chicago Bulls broke ground Monday on a $25 million practice facility on a United Center parking lot—an investment that Bulls Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf said would not have happened without Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s notorious powers of persuasion.

“The mayor called me and said it would be important to the city for the Bulls to come back downtown—that we’re the Chicago Bulls. We shouldn’t be training in Deerfield,” Reinsdorf said after joining the mayor at groundbreaking ceremonies in Parking Lot “J”.

“We were not thinking about coming back into the city. We were thinking about building a bigger building somewhere out there… because we do need more space. But, he said it was important to him and it was important to the city. So, I said we would do it.”
