In a beautiful example of fan-made animation (fanimation?), a Canadian artist has created an adorable homage to the timeless "Calvin and Hobbes" comic strip.
On Thursday, Toronto-based animator Adam Brown (of Comedy Central's "Ugly Americans" fame) posted his 31-second clip of the lovable characters dancing, and it has already racked up over 250,000 views on YouTube.
Describing his homage as a "fan interpretation of Calvin and Hobbes' dance moves, made for fun and no money," Brown has made his video is so lovable by staying painstakingly faithful to the original comic strip's look, a strategy he used in another "Calvin and Hobbes" video he made earlier this year.
It should be noted that ever since "Calvin and Hobbes" creator Bill Watterson stopped publishing the comic back in 1995, he has worked tirelessly to stop unauthorized versions of his work from being published. The famously reclusive artists has also never expressed interest in creating an animated version of his work. In fact, during an interview with Mental Floss earlier in October, Watterson said that the comic strip "works exactly the way I intended it to. There’s no upside for me in adapting it."
While the age of the Internet means such adaptations are inevitable, Brown nevertheless added an apology to Watterson at the end of his video.
We can't speak for Watterson, but we're pretty into this animation.
