It has been a rough couple years for Cameron Douglas, Michael Douglas' son, who is currently serving a nine-and-a-half year prison sentence.

The 34-year-old is recovering from a broken leg and finger after a New York crime boss reportedly put a $100 bounty on his head. According to the New York Post, the hit is thought to be some form of payback for Douglas being a "rat," a title he may have earned after his psychiatrist accidentally revealed Cameron once testified against his drug suppliers.

“He broke his femur, which is hard to snap, and had to have a rod inserted,” an anonymous source told the Post. “He told health services staff that he hurt them playing handball. You don’t break a femur playing handball.”

Douglas is imprisoned for charges related to smuggling and selling drugs, including methamphetamine, heroin and prescription narcotics. The sentence was originally only five years, which increased after the troubled actor got caught smuggling heroin into prison.

Despite Cameron's difficulties, his father has remained by his side. In 2010, notes Radar, Michael Douglas regularly made the 200-mile trip to visit his son despite his own battle against cancer.

At the time, Michael acknowledged that his actions as "a bad father" contributed to his son's struggles, according to the UK's Daily Mail.
