If you've followed this story, you already know Chris Moore. I interviewed him on my radio show (along with others), as well as April Marsh, both of whom became the public face for the SEIU nurses in Las Vegas. The story of the SEIU nurse lock-out by Universal Health Services and David Bussone has gone wide, because everyone has a healthcare scare, a story or even a tragedy; or maybe you know a nurse, perhaps even had a nurse make a difference in your life or the life of your family. From Jane Hamsher, who covers unions regularly on Firedoglake, to Julia Rosen to the Left Coaster to Matt Singer to David Sirota to Center for American Progress, the progressive blogosphere blasted this story across the web. But it was Matt Stoller of MyDD who got the ball rolling on this one.
Last night's candlelight vigil was special to watch. There were mothers and fathers, young people, older folks and lots of kids holding candles. It was a family affair. There were remarks and prayers from a variety of people of faith, even a song, "This Little Light of Mine." Then, at the close, everyone started chanting.
UNION.
UNION!
UNION.
This morning at 7:00 a.m., the SEIU nurses can finally get back to work. That's where they've always belonged.
Now all they need is a contract.
