Partially as the result of the dedicated efforts of three teenage girls, a woman -- Candy Crowley, CNN's chief political correspondent -- was chosen to moderate Tuesday night's presidential debate at Hofstra University. Sixteen-year-old Emma Axelrod, one of the girls who started the petition for a female moderator, couldn't be more pleased with Crowley's performance.
Axelrod, who forms one-third of the New Jersey trio that created the Change.org petition calling for a woman to moderate the presidential debates for the first time in 20 years, said that Crowley did a "fantastic job," adding that no man or woman could have done it better.
"Crowley was a great choice and I loved her follow-ups and thought she did a sound job of keeping the candidates under control," Alexrod wrote on Poynter.org. "Especially since we all know from watching Jim Lehrer’s performance as moderator in the first debate that it’s not the easiest job."
Two out of the four presidential debates this year were moderated by women. Last week's vice-presidential debates were moderated by Martha Raddatz of ABC News, who was highly praised for her performance.
