The classic Hasbro board game Candy Land is aimed at preschool-aged children who cannot yet read, and follows a bunch of plastic gingerbread playing tokens as they traverse the Peppermint Forest and Ice Cream Sea.
It is also being adapted into a big budget Hollywood action film.
Glenn Berger and Jonathan Aibel, who are writing the script, spoke to Entertainment Weekly last Sunday from the premiere of "Kung Fu Panda 2," another film they penned, about their ambitious plans for the adaptation.
"We envision [Candy Land] as 'Lord of the Rings,'" Berger said. "But set in a world of candy."
Berger went on to explain that the Candy Land movie will not be remotely based on the specifics of the board game, "although it has characters from that world and takes the idea of people finding themselves in a world that happens to be made entirely of candy where there are huge battles going on."
Sounds kind of amazing and atrocious all at once, right? Or maybe just one of the two.
Now, lest you think Hollywood is stopping at Candy Land, let it be known that at least four other board game-adaptations are in the works, ranging from the equally ridiculous to the even-more-ridiculous.

1. Ouija
Since 1966, this spirit-summoning board game has given teens creative ways to ask ghosts who in the room has a crush on them. Now, Michael Bay's production company is hoping to shake things up, exploding the project into a "four-quadrant supernatural adventure." "Terminator: Salvation" director McG is attached to direct for a 2012 release.
2. Sorry!
Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon of "Reno 911!" are penning the screenplay for this adaptation of the Parker Brothers game, which they began writing in 2009. The film follows a hapless insurance salesman who grows weary of his soul-sucking job and attempts to take down his own bosses. Jason Sudeikis is tentatively attached.
3. Battleship
"Friday Night Lights" creator and "Hancock" director Peter Berg will tackle this big budget film based on the classic war strategy game, starring Liam Neeson, Rihanna and model Brooklyn Decker. According to IMDB, the film follows a fleet of ships forced to do battle with an "armada of unknown origins."
4. RISK
Sony Pictures Entertainment has acquired the rights to produce RISK, the classic board game brand of world conquest, which was developed in the late 1950s. According to Sony press notes, the film will be produced and developed by Hasbro's Brian Goldner and Bennett Schneir and Overbrook Entertainment's James Lassiter. But who will play The Dice? The Dice is a very important character.
5. Scrabble
For years, this game has entertained family members young and old, and now it's hitting the big screen. Set for a 2013 release, Scrabble will be half live-action and half animated, according to director Carlos Saldanha, who recently directed the animated animal adventure comedy, "Rio." Expect a major family secret to be revealed during a harmless game of Scrabble, which sets off a series of magical revelations.
6. Monopoly
Ridley Scott has been attached to this project since 2010, and describes the film as a comedy about greed. Scott told MTV News that the project will "largely revolve around a Donald Trump-esque character, battling with other greedy wannabe real-estate titans." It is currently set for a 2014 release.
7. Twister
Katie Wech, who recently penned Disney's "Prom," has been assigned to adapt this party favorite into a teen comedy romp. To score the girls of their dreams, two high-schoolers attempt to break the Guiness World Record for "biggest Twister game of all time." No director is attached and the film was only recently announced.
