Cara Alexander, Virginia Teacher, Accused Of Yearlong Sexual Relationship With Student

Police: Teacher Sexted Nude Photos To Student

A Newport News, Va., high school teacher is accused of having a yearlong sexual relationship with a student.

Police arrested Cara Alexander, a 27-year-old English teacher at Woodside High School, last Friday following an investigation into allegations made by the parents of a 17-year-old student. According to ABC local affiliate WVEC, the boy's parents told police that they found nude photos of the teacher on their son's phone last Tuesday.

According to court documents obtained by North Carolina CBS affiliate WTKR, the student in question told police that he had had sex with the teacher more than 20 times since last summer. The documents state that Alexander initiated contact with the student by giving him her cell phone number.

Students at the school told the station they were surprised that Alexander, whom they described as "calm" and "friendly," would be involved in such allegations.

"She never like, presented herself like she would do that,” senior Terrence Nabrict told WTKR.

Newport News Public Schools spokeswoman Michelle Morgan-Price told the Newport News Virginian-Pilot that Alexander has taught ninth-grade English at Woodside since 2010 and was a substitute teacher before then. Price said Alexander will be fired from her position, and a recommendation will be made that her state teaching license be revoked.

Newport News police said Alexander faces 13 felony charges: six counts of using a communications system to facilitate offenses involving children, six counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and one count of taking indecent liberties with a minor.
