UPDATE 10/20: The first couple has announced the name of their newborn daughter: Giulia.

Le Figaro reported that the French First Lady is currently in labor at the La Muette maternity clinic, located in Paris' 16th arrondissement. The baby, which the paper says is a girl (!), could arrive anytime this afternoon or early evening.

This will be Bruni's second child, her first with husband, French president Nicolas Sarkozy. Sarkozy visited his wife at La Muette but left after a half hour to fly to Germany, where he is in talks about Europe's debt crisis.

Reporters have gathered outside the clinic and have apparently been crowding the area in anticipation for two weeks, writes Le Figaro. They are eagerly pursuing the final chapter of the Bruni baby story, which has been chronicled by the press for months.

Bruni delayed announcing her pregnancy for months, instead stepping out in increasingly baggy clothes and playing coy as to whether she and her husband were expecting.

But after being spotted at political events, beaches and even magazine covers with what looked like a growing bump de bébé, France's First Lady finally confirmed the pregnancy in July.
