Carla Bruni Goes To Washington, Picks Up A Copy Of 'Madeleine' (PHOTOS, POLL)

After a two-day romp through New York--which included kissing, cuddling, Columbia University, Alliance Francaise, and Julliard--the Sarkozys jetted off to Washington, DC on Tuesday morning, where they will dine in the Obamas' private apartment in the evening.

Upon departing the Carlyle Hotel in New York on Tuesday morning, France's first lady sported chic shades despite the torrential downpour. After arriving in Washington, she paid a visit to the children of Kipp DC charter school, and left with a copy of the French children's classic Madeleine ! Kids at Washington's Kipp DC charter school were over the moon at their visitor and her entourage of bodyguards. They greeted her carrying French flags and sang to her, "Ain't No Mountain High Enough." She read them a Madeline book from the series about a girl living in France — read it in English, which the Italian-born French first lady speaks fluently.
