Carley Schlentz, Shark Attack Survivor, Speaks About Experience (VIDEO)

Carley Schlentz, a 13-year-old from Greensboro, N.C., survived a shark attack at a North Carolina beach on Friday, and spoke about the experience this morning on CBS.

Schlentz said of the incident: "I thought it was my best friend's sister grabbing onto my ankle, but then it got really tight so I pulled away."

It was then that she noticed her foot was "completely open," alerting her that something was wrong. Schlentz had about 70 stitches following the injury, though "everything should be back to normal in about two months," besides the scar, she noted.

Schlentz's mother told the Wilmington Star-News that her daughter is "one tough cookie" and despite the attack, "She'll definitely go back to the beach; she will not keep this from her enjoying life."

Shark expert Andy Dehert said this was a case of "mistaken identity," and it's a very rare occurrence. Only 35 shark attacks have taken place at North Carolina beaches in the last 75 years.
