Carly Fiorina Takes A Dig At Ben Carson: 'I Am Actually A Republican'

She also called herself "the lump of coal" in Hillary Clinton's stocking.

Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina took a dig at opponent Ben Carson on Friday for saying that he may split from the Republican Party.

Carson was not pleased to hear Friday reports that Republican officials were weighing the possibility of a brokered convention to select the party's presidential nominee. A brokered convention would result if no one candidate secured majority support from delegates to win the nomination outright.

"If this was the beginning of a plan to subvert the will of the voters and replace it with the will of the political elite, I assure you Donald Trump will not be the only one leaving the party," he said in response to the reports, according to CNN.

Conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt asked Fiorina on Friday if she, too, would threaten to leave the Republican Party.

"No, I’m not going to threaten to leave the party, because I actually am a Republican," Fiorina said.

She told the radio host she didn't understand Carson's response to the reports, saying the outcome of a brokered convention would be determined by the voters, not Republican Party leaders.

"If no one goes into the convention with enough votes to be declared the winner, then it is a brokered convention," she said. "So you could make the case that a brokered convention does reflect the will of the people. So I was a little confused by his statement, honestly."

Hewitt posited that a brokered convention could help the Republican Party, saying it "keeps Hillary from knowing where to train her billions on."

Fiorina again said the approach wouldn't be a bad thing because it's a reflection of the votes of the people, but suggested it would be wisest for voters to back the candidate who has the best shot against Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton.

"I think it’s important to think through who is Hillary Clinton’s worst nightmare," she said. "I think I’m the lump of coal in her stocking, and I think some of these candidates, Donald Trump in particular, are a big Christmas gift wrapped up under the tree for her."
