Carly Rae Jepsen Covers 'Seventeen,' Talks New Boyfriend Matthew Coma (PHOTOS)

'I Worked 8 Minimum-Wage Jobs Pursuing This Career'

"Call Me Maybe" may have secured its spot in music history as the biggest song of 2012 (and arguably the catchiest pop song ever), but don't expect singer Carly Rae Jepsen to be fading from the spotlight anytime soon.

In a cover interview with "Seventeen," the "Call Me Maybe" singer dished on Justin Bieber, new BF Matthew Koma and getting through some tough times to get where she is today. Scroll down for photos from Carly's "Seventeen" photo shoot.

For the magazine's March 2013 issue, Carly Rae opened up about working eight minimum-wage jobs while she tried to make it in the music industry. The singer told "Seventeen" that there was a time when she didn't know how to turn her passion for music into a real career.

"In college there was a time I felt lost and had the blues," she confessed, "... I was doing every job imaginable to pay rent while I was pursuing this career. I guess I like the hunger of not knowing if things will work out."

But fortunately for Carly, things did work out -- thanks to a little help from pal Justin Bieber. The singer said she's learned a lot from the Biebs, who "leads by example."

"I love that he works hard and has fun," she told "Seventeen." "I was in Paris promoting my new album, 'Kiss,' for three days with no time off. So I went out at four in the morning to go explore the entire city. I try to make moments happen that feel very special and memorable because that’s exactly how Justin does it."

Carly also says she's been sharing some special moments with her boyfriend, musician Matthew Koma, who produced her second single, "This Kiss."

"When you meet the right person, you’re just like, Wow! I’m having the busiest year of my life and somehow I’ve met an amazing person who has been a grounding force," she said. "I don’t think anything can get in the way if you both really want it badly."
