Casseroles are a bit of a double-edged sword for the novice cook. They're one of the easiest and less stressful meals to put together, but they're almost always guaranteed to come out looking ugly. Really ugly. Ugly to the point of disappointment and self doubt. But don't second-think your casserole. If you made a casserole, and it tastes good, you've had a success in the kitchen. Congrats!
If that little bit of truth doesn't reassure you, maybe the fact that your casseroles don't look anything like the ones below will. Oh, and did we mention that they were published by heavy hitters in the food industry and they're in our very own recipe database?
1.) This is a buffalo chicken casserole.
It bears a striking resemblance to the possible outcome of eating one too many buffalo wings with blue cheese -- and by that, we mean vomit. It definitely doesn't look like something we want to bite into. But we bet it actually tastes pretty darn good.
2.) Let us introduce you to the Baked Eyeballs Casserole. 
This dish was intentionally made to look as though it was looking at you -- and we just want to know why? WHY?
3.) It's a Creamy Chicken Casserole.
Somehow the fluorescent orange cheese does not make this casserole anymore appetizing. Could it be the fact that this dish is made with chicken soup and canned chicken? That's right, canned chicken. We're not sure that there's any saving grace for this casserole abomination.
4.) This is a Chicken, Mushroom & Wild Rice Casserole.
There's a lesson in this ugly casserole. If your dish comes out looking like this one -- by which we mean like a giant brown turd -- just cover it in slivered almonds. It won't make it look any better, but it might give people a little more incentive to try some. And our guess is that it'll taste really good too.
5.) It's a chicken enchilada casserole.
Well, this is just a couple of enchiladas from the casserole, but they give you a good enough idea of what the entire thing looked like. It's scary, we know. But we also know that enchiladas taste good no matter how bad they look. So close your eyes and take a bite.
