'The Casual Vacancy' Movie: Casting JK Rowling's New Book

How We'd Cast 'The Casual Vacancy' Movie

Although JK Rowling's new book for adults, "The Casual Vacancy," has been getting lukewarm reviews, we're willing to bet that the novel will eventually be adapted for the silver screen. It's full of dramatic twists and turns, which is unsurprising coming from the mind behind the Harry Potter series, books beloved for their engaging stories rather than their less-than-eloquent language.

Rowling said in an interview with USA Today that her new book wouldn't translate well into a movie. She says, "Personally, I don’t think this is a very filmable book. That is one of the things I like about it. I think it’s a very novelly novel in that a lot of what goes on happens internally. You need to understand what’s going on inside people’s heads. So even though a lot happens in the novel, part of the appeal of it for me is that so much of it happens in people’s interior life, and film isn’t necessarily the best medium to portray that."

Still, Yahoo! Movies says the recent trend in Dickensian films means Rowling's book could very well be picked up by an American or British production company.

If the book is adapted, it'll be a doozy to cast, as it features nearly 20 intergal characters, including a pair of romantic, angsty teenage boys, a secretly OCD high school administrator, and an underprivileged athlete struggling to remain optimistic.

Here's who we'd cast in Rowling's small-town class saga. Let us know if you agree in the comments!:
