May is Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage month and all month long there are several ways to mark the occasion in the DC area with or without kids along!

The Emperor's Nightingale: Adventure Theater MTC at Glen Echo Park is celebrating Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage month with its production of The Emperor's Nightingale set in China. This delightful play updates Han Christian Anderson's classic fairytale and features an all-Asian cast and production staff. There are even Pandas in the style of traditional Chinese Dragons and the play has a universal message of acceptance and remaining connected to those we love.

DC Mayor's Celebration: Heritage month Mayor Bowser's Annual Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Evening Celebration celebrates AAPI Heritage with a celebration including AAPI performers. This annual event is a fantastic way to connect with others interested in AAPI heritage in the area.

Freer and Sackler Events: Discover family-friendly activities to teach children about Asian heritage and culture at the Freer and Sackler Museums. Coming up on May 7th is Korea Day: A Family Festival. There will be art projects, Taekwondo demonstrations, and traditional food available. While you are there, check out storybook readings, a signing of Temple Foods by Jung Lee and trunk shoes by a painter and jeweler.

Foodelicious: The Mayor's Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs, in partnership with the DC Commission on Arts and Humanities, the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center, and American Chinese Culinary Federation teamed up to bring together three of DC's top AAPI chefs for a free cooking demonstration and panel discussion - along with some light refreshments. Best of all, it's free!

Fiesta Asia: The Fiesta Asia street fairs are an integral part of the Passport DC program. On May 21st head downtown to experience performances like Tibetan Folk; Filipino Hip Hop; Muay Thai Kickboxing and Middle Eastern Drums, a live talent search for kids, the Kiddiz Cool Lounge including the Fiesta Asia Dragon, Lantern Making; Henna Painting Storytelling, and opportunities to learn hula, drumming, and belly dance.

Asia Moves: A new kind of Flash Mob, check out this online tutorial to learn an amazing dance set to a Bollywood tune.
DOONYA and Spotlight Studio will present Punjabi Wedding Song - a catchy Bollywood show tune and anyone who learns the moves is welcome to participate.

With so many fun events planned for AAPI Heritage Month there is a way for the whole family to experience AAPI Heritage.
