Those National—“what now?”—Days surface so often, they tend to get ignored. BUT January 26th backs a movement I am 100% behind, and that’s because it’s all about drinking green juice!

Recently returned from Miami Beach, I have been craving the great-for-you plant-focused foods from South Beach restaurant DIRT, Eat Clean (dirteatclean.com), especially their refreshing Glow Smoothie. OK, OK, a smoothie is not a juice per se, but this one is green thanks to a bunch of spinach that packs a nutrient punch and tastes awesome when blended with tropical fruits. Because I’m not in Miami any more, DIRT founder Jeff Latulippe sent over the recipe, and I am paying it forward by sharing its magic with you. Making this delicious elixir is super easy!

DIRT’S GLOW SMOOTHIE

Ingredients

coconut water 16 oz

spinach 8 oz

mango 24 oz

coconut meat 4 oz

honey or agave to taste (about 2 tsp)

kosher or himalayan salt (a small pinch will do)

Directions

Add the heaviest ingredients into the blender first, spinach, honey and half of the coconut water. Slowly add the rest of the coconut water to blend. Taste. Add more honey if necessary and a pinch of salt.

Jeff tells me that the smoothie is the perfect tonic either to detox after a big night out, or to recover post workout (you just need to add plant protein powder). To be honest, I like how drink fills me up and makes me feel great, especially during the dreaded 3 p.m. slump!

On the flipside, in Los Angeles, a truer-to-juice version comes from Renew Juicery (renewjuicery.com), my favorite new find in the Mar Vista neighbourhood near Santa Monica. Coincidentally, their delicious green juice is also named Glow. Why? Because the mix of collagen-boosting vitamin C and nutrient-dense greens will literally make you glowy and vibrant after just one juice, says owner Brooke Rewa.

Renew offers their juices in these cute glass bottles that you can take home and reuse. But if you can’t make it into the shop, here’s their recipe too!

RENEW JUICERY’S GLOW JUICE

Ingredients Prep

Wash and prep your fruits and veggies and toss in the juicer until you get the following amounts:

pineapple juice 5 oz

cucumber 3 oz

spinach 1.5 oz

kale 1 oz

apple 1 oz

Directions

Mix, adding a tablespoon of ginger juice for a fun boost!

Now that you’re set with breakfast and post-workout tricks, tip back and cheers with your version of green juice.
