When Mother Teresa was given the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her humanitarian work it is said that she was asked, "What can we do to promote world peace?" Her reply? "Go home and love your family."
Working in the slums of Calcutta, she devoted her life to helping the sick and hungry. When she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize then President Jimmy Carter declared to her, "Your work on behalf of children, refugees, the poor and the sick has been a great inspiration for many years to those of us who cherish and espouse human rights." Born on August 26, 1910, in what was then the Ottoman Empire (and is now the Republic of Macedonia), she passed away on September 5, 1997. On the 105th anniversary of her birth, we honor Mother Teresa with some of her great quotes. Read them here at Parade.com.
