Our jaws literally hit the floor when we heard that our favorite eternal bachelor, George Clooney, was single no more, after proposing to his new-time girlfriend, Amal Alamuddin last week. We never thought we'd see the day where our favorite commitment-phobe would finally settle down, after he famously swore we'd never see him walk down the aisle again.

Before Clooney was known for his bevy of beauties as much as his acting, he was actually a married man. The actor, who turns 53 today, was briefly married to Talia Balsam, decades ago.

But alas, maybe it was timing, or maybe it was fate, even Clooney has found his true love, which just goes to show there's someone out there for all of us. We're not sure when he plans to tie the knot, but he won't be the first post 50 to settle down and prove that really great things can happen -- even late in the game.

Ellen DeGeneres

The daytime funny-lady celebrated her 50th year by marrying her longtime love, actress and model Portia DeRossi. DeGeneres previously had high-profile relationships with actress Anne Heche, who she planned to marry, and also Alexandra Hedison, who recently married Jodie Foster.

While the couple have been the target of the Hollywood rumor mill, Ellen insists their bond is as strong as ever.

"The truth is, and this is corny, I fall more in love with Portia all the time. I really do, " she told People. "She surprises me all the time," she says. "It's what anyone experiences when you find that person that gets you, wants to take care of you, wants the best for you. We're really lucky because we know how rare it is." Aww!
Harrison Ford

It seems like the third time was the charm for Harrison Ford. After two failed marriages, the actor met Calista Flockhart, more than 20 years his junior, and the rest, as they say is history. The notoriously media-shy couple married in 2010 when Ford was 61, after Flockhart reportedly spilled her drink on him at the Golden Globe Awards in 2002.

"I was 60 when I fell in love with Calista," Ford told Hello! "What surprised me most was that I was still capable of establishing a long-lasting relationship, making a serious commitment. With my children, in my private life or my work, I try to learn from my mistakes and evolve."

Life took an unexpected turn for the musician in 1998 when his wife of nearly 30 years died from cancer. McCartney found love a few years later in a highly-publicized romance with Heather Mills. The lavish wedding cost the singer a cool $3.2 million, but the divorce was even more expensive.

So when McCartney proposed to businesswoman Nancy Shevell at the age of 68, he knew the wedding best be an intimate affair. They married in 2011 in a simple court ceremony in London.
James Brolin and Barbra Streisand

It was a long road to love for this pair, who were both in their mid 50s when they wed. Their marriage was Streisand's second and Brolin's third. And it seems the pair have brought lessons to the table with them.

Streisand attributes their success to learning to love Brolin's flaws, as well as her own. For Brolin, it's been learning to compromise.

"The fact is, I am in my third marriage and I do not believe in divorce. But I was half the problem, I guarantee you. More than half the problem. I couldn’t negotiate with the other women," he told Parade. "My wife, we can negotiate very easily when there is a difference of opinion."
Prince Albert II of Monaco

In a real-life fairytale wedding, the then 53-year-old Monegasque royal married longtime girlfriend Charlene Wittstock in 2011. It might have taken Albert a long time to find his princess, but it took Monaco even longer. They've been waiting over 30 years for a princess!

In a surprise announcement, the jolly, former TODAY show weatherman married his girlfriend, Paris Keena, in April. They've been together over a decade and have known each other for several more. Check out an adorable picture of the couple here.
Katie Couric

Yet another TODAY Show alumnus is getting hitched! Couric announced her engagement last year, at age 56, to financier John Molner. Couric lost her first husband, with whom she has two daughters, to colon cancer in 1998.

Couric was open to remarriage, but didn't want to push Molner. "My preference was always to get remarried, but I was also open to being in a Goldie Hawn/Kurt Russell situation. I have a lot of respect for the institution of marriage; it was very old-fashioned that John proposed," Couric told Gotham Magazine. I had absolutely no idea. In a world where we plan everything and you want to be in control of everything, it's nice for someone else to take control." We can't wait for the wedding!

Marriage can be sweet, even the second time around, says Robert Redford. The notoriously private actor married his girlfriend Sibylle Szaggars in an intimate ceremony of just around 30 family and friends in 2009, in her native Germany. Redford, then 72, later told AARP that getting older helps you get a new lease on life. "She's [his wife] younger than I am [in her early 50s], and European, which I like, so that's a whole new life."
Valerie Bertinelli

While she's known for her marriage to rocker Eddie Van Halen, Bertinelli has found love after 50 with her second husband, Tom Vitale. It's not easy giving love a chance after a divorce, but this time around it just felt right, she told AARP in 2010.

"We're both still a little afraid of commitment, but then we were over there, and it was like our souls were calibrated."

Luckily for Bertinelli, she's friendly with her ex -- she attended Van Halen's 2009 wedding, and he attended hers in 2011!
