The "Christmas spirit" can be a bit much at times, with repetitive carols playing 24/7 on the radio and Santa decorations cropping up before the Thanksgiving table has even been cleared. We get it.

But if there's anyone who can pull off a good Christmas hymn -- and make it something you'd actually want to listen to -- it's Hozier. And Patti Smith. And a host of other famous singers who add flair to these classic songs that most standard versions are lacking.

So turn off the radio and let these 11 stars remind us what the Christmas spirit is all about:

"God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman"
Hozier takes us to church with this beautiful hymn.
"O Holy Night"
Queen Patti Smith nails it at the 2013 Vatican Christmas concert.
"Angels We Have Heard On High"
Sufjan Stevens, for the win.
"Silent Night"
Beyoncé could sing anything, and it would sound perfect.
"O Come All Ye Faithful"
When Celine Dion sings, angels shed tears of joy.
"It Came Upon A Midnight Clear"
Leave it to Norah Jones to make a Christmas song sound like a country lullaby.
"O Little Town Of Bethlehem"
It's like having Sarah McLachlan in your living room while she sings and strums this lovely hymn.
"Hark! The Herald Angels Sing"
If you like Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You," then you're in for a treat.
"Oh Come, Oh Come Emmanuel"
Kelly Clarkson makes this Christmas hymn sound wonderfully creepy and dramatic.
"The First Noel"
You have never heard "The First Noel" like this rendition by Whitney Houston.
"Away In A Manger"
Is that a banjo we hear, Faith Hill?
