Celebs Urged To Help Dump Hadassah Lieberman

Last week, the progressive blog Firedoglake called on Susan G. Komen for the Cure to drop Sen. Joe Lieberman's wife Hadassah as its "Global Ambassador," given her ties to the insurance industry. Now they're calling on the celebrity backers of the cancer-fighting non-profit to help.

"We are asking Ellen DeGeneres, Christie Brinkley and other high-profile celebrities who are associated with Komen to demand that no more money raised for cancer treatment be given to Hadassah Lieberman or any other ex-Pharma/Insurance strategists," said Firedoglake's Jane Hamsher, a breast cancer survivor, in a statement. "People who are racing for the cure wouldn't be racing to pay Hadassah Lieberman money, especially if they knew her ties to the same corporations that are blocking women's health reforms currently being debated in Congress."

Hadassah Lieberman has worked as a consultant for Pfizer and APCO and worked on health care and the pharmaceutical industry at the lobbying firm Hill & Knowlton.

The petition was directed at the following celebrities involved in Komen for the Cure: Aimee Teegarden, Andie MacDowell, Christie Brinkley, Cynthia Nixon, Ellen DeGeneres, Gloria Gaynor, James Denton, James Woods, Jennifer Tilly, John Ondrasik, Kimberly Locke, Marcia Cross, Mimi Rogers, Neil Patrick Harris, Trisha Yearwood, and Vida Guerra.
