The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) is not taking Bethann Hardison and The Diversity Coalition's accusations of racism lightly.
The WWD reports that Steven Kolb, CEO of CFDA, and Diane von Furstenberg, fashion designer and President of CFDA, are planning to meet with Hardison, model-cum-activist and founder of The Diversity Coalition, to discuss the issue of diversity on the runway -- or more specifically the lack thereof.
The gathering comes in the wake of Hardison's open letter to the CFDA and the governing bodies of fashion weeks in London, Paris and Milan. The brief yet powerful composition calls out the industry's whitewashing of the runways, and lists the names of "fashion houses guilty of this racist act."
Gemma Ebelis, The British Fashion Council spokeswoman, also reached out to Hardison upon receiving the letter. The Diversity Coalition leader intends to schedule a meeting with the BFC “to see how we can continue the discussion as they requested,” Hardison told WWD.
Hardison's diversity crusade is making noise beyond the world of fashion. On Monday, Hardison was joined by fellow Diversity Coalition members and iconic supermodels Naomi Campbell and Iman on a segment of "Good Morning America" to impart their feelings on fashion's race problem.
