Charles Clark is the head custodian at Trinity High School in Euless, Texas, but while his main duty is to keep the campus clean, what he does for the students reaches far beyond school walls.
“All my life, I’ve always asked God to give me a job where I can make a difference and help people,” he said. And he does. In addition to cleaning, Clark’s job includes mentoring students and giving them someone to look up to.
According to the custodian, many of the students come from single-family homes and are struggling in various areas of their lives. The administration identifies these teens and then asks Clark to step in to offer special attention and guidance.
“Everybody looks up to him as a big role model,” Trinity High School student Bri Palumbo remarked. For those who are missing a father figure in their lives, Clark fills that void.
“I don’t want anybody to feel sorry for me because I’m a custodian,” he said. “You tell me that I don’t have a great life? Charles Clark is the most blessed man — excuse me, but I get emotional when I talk about my children — on the face of this earth.”
