Charles Mann Stabbed Mom 11 Times, Cut Off Own Penis

A 21-year-old man in West Sussex, England, who stabbed his mother 11 times has been sentenced to 16 months in jail, but will only spend four more weeks behind bars.

In December 2013, after binging on marijuana, alcohol and mephedrone, Charles Mann had what a judge called a "drug-fueled psychosis" during which he stabbed his mother numerous times and chopped off his own penis.

Despite suffering a punctured lung, Emily Mann was able to lock herself in her bathroom and call police, the BBC reports.

She spent 14 days in the hospital being treated for injuries to her back, head, neck and arms, according to HuffPost UK.

Responding officers said Charles Mann was naked and trying to escape through a broken window.

During questioning, he told police he had taken "loads of lines" of "meow meow," the street name for mephedrone. Officers said he seemed manic and deranged, but eventually admitted the attack on his mother, according to the Metro.

"I have stabbed her multiple times, I have killed her. I have stabbed my mum and I need to be punished for what I have done," he told officers, adding, "I am a pedophile, I do not want to live. Take me to the light, I can see the vampires."

During his drug-induced state, Mann chopped off his penis. Doctors were able to reattach it and treat him for other bodily injuries before transferring him to a psychiatric unit and, eventually, to Lewes Prison, HuffPost UK reports.

Mann pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm on January 19.

During his sentencing hearing on Monday, prosecutor Amy Packham said that while the accused did have drug-induced psychosis, he could not use an insanity defense since his drug consumption was voluntary, according to the Mirror.

Mann was sentenced to 16 months in prison, but the judge reduced it to eight months. Because of the time he has served previously, he will only be in jail for four more weeks. After that, he must go through a supervised drug and alcohol treatment program, the paper reports.
