Charlie Crist Loses Bid To Defeat Rick Scott

Former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist (D) lost his bid to unseat Gov. Rick Scott (R) Tuesday in one of the nation's highest profile gubernatorial contests.

Crist identified as a Republican until he switch to the Democratic Party in December of 2012. He defeated former Florida state Sen. Nan Rich to secure the Democratic nomination earlier this year.

He consistently criticized Scott over education spending and voting rights, as well as the governor's refusal to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. The race was one of the country's nastiest, with more than $50 million spent on television advertising by mid-September.
