Chelsea Handler Breaks Down Over Hillary Clinton Loss

The comedian planned to move to Spain, but now says she refuses to "throw in the towel."

Chelsea Handler had every intention of leaving the United States if Donald Trump was elected president.

Back in May, the comedian said during an interview on “Live with Kelly and Michael” that she bought a house in Spain as a possible exit plan depending on the election outcome.

“He can’t possibly really be trying to get elected to become president. That doesn’t make any sense — after Barack Obama, I mean, I’ll just blow my head up,” she said. “I did buy a house in another country just in case. So all these people that threaten to leave the country and then don’t — I actually will leave that country.”

On Wednesday night after the election, while sitting down with Senator Barbara Boxer, Handler gave a tearful explanation on her Netflix show as to why she has decided to stay.

“I know for a woman, as a woman, it feels so sexist,” she said. “And I guess the message that I want to spread to other women is ... not to give up, because this is so important. It’s easy to say throw in the towel and that we’re gonna leave or I’m gonna move to Spain, because I want to move to Spain. I really, really want to move to Spain right now. And everyone in my office is like, ‘You have a responsibility and you have a voice and you need to use it and you have to be here.’”

She took to Instagram to offer a personal message and more explanation.

Handler’s mission, she said, is to keep fighting in honor of Hillary Clinton. She shared a quote from Clinton’s concession speech on Instagram Wednesday , as well.
