Rosie O'Donnell's Daughter Says Her Mom Smokes Weed, Keeps To Herself

Chelsea O'Donnell also addresses why she ran away from home.

Rosie O'Donnell has had a strained relationship with her 18-year-old daughter, Chelsea, whom she adopted at age 3. Now that she's out of the house, Chelsea recently sat down with the Daily Mail to discuss what life with her famous mother was like.

Growing up, Chelsea said it was tough to get along with her mother because she was a “phony.”

I find her not genuine a lot of the time. When we'd go out, she was a completely different person in public than at home and I had a hard time with that. It's like two different people," said Chelsea.

Even after being friendly around other people in public, Chelsea insists that at home, O'Donnell "would either just be in her room, not engaging with us, or watching documentaries."

In the tell-all interview, Chelsea also said that her mom mostly keeps to herself, likes to sleep in late and even smokes weed.

I mean, she smokes weed -- not around us -- but the whole house smells like it,” Chelsea said.

O'Donnell and her daughter's relationship struggles became very public this year. In August, the TV personality took to her website and Twitter to ask followers to help find her then 17-year-old daughter after she went missing.

"She told me to leave and take my dog," said Chelsea. "Rosie knew I was planning to leave, that's why I think she kicked me out."

Less than a week after she was found, Chelsea turned 18, left O'Donnell's house and went to live with her birth mother in Wisconsin.

Though O'Donnell has yet to comment on the story, her rep, Cindi Berger, told The Huffington Post that the interview was "heartbreaking on every level."
