Cher Speculates On Why Gay Men Love Her So Much

Like many iconic female performers, Cher has long courted a gay male fanbase. In an appearance at the 2013 Attitude Awards in London, the legendary singer-actress speculated on a few reasons as to why gay men love her so much.

“Gay men especially...either love you or they don't even notice that you're on the planet,” Cher, who accepted the British magazine's Legend award, told the crowd. "I think what they like...I think what you guys like, is you like a strong woman that's having a breakdown constantly, and that certainly is me. Judy Garland's got nothing on me."

As it turns out, Cher had a relationship with the gay community even before she was famous. “It seems like I've always had gay people in my life," she recalled. "In the beginning, I actually thought that 'gay' was code for fun.”

The 67-year-old superstar has a lot to celebrate these days. Her latest album, "Closer to the Truth," became the highest-charting of her career; in addition to her advising role on "The Voice," Cher is preparing for her Dressed To Kill tour, set to kick off in Phoenix, Ariz. in March 2014.
