In this day and age, a number of technologies exist that have completely changed the way we interact and connect with one another. Smartphones are becoming better than ever, allowing us to be in constant communication and making sure that we can maintain contact with one another, no matter how far away we are. And the internet has made it possible for us to be near each other 24/7, no matter how far away we are.
But by and large, photography has been one of the most instrumental developments in the history of human connection. Ever since the daguerreotype was introduced in 1839 to the general public by Louis Daguerre, society has been feverishly documenting, illustrating and photographing the incredible times that we share.
Yet in the last few years, something exceptionally interesting has happened. While our technology has been improving at lightning speed, and we now have more and more ways to connect with one another, photography has taken on a whole new life. It is no longer reserved for special occasions and life milestones, but is accessible for us to document every important moment that we share with our loved ones. No longer is a camera our only photo-taking device; we have smartphones and computer screens for that. We don't need to be experts on capturing the perfect lighting and shot, thanks to programs like photoshop and even Instagram. And now we are able to express, connect and share ourselves and our moments with everyone around us, utilizing photo sharing sites and social media.
