Chewbacca Mom Sings Heartfelt Song In Grief Over Latest Violence

She turned to Michael Jackson's "Heal the World."

Who knew Chewbacca Mom had such a moving singing voice?

Candace Payne, the Texas woman who became a viral sensation after posting a video of herself laughing hysterically in a Chewbacca mask, put up a more serious video on Saturday afternoon.

“I’ve been spreading joy … but I’ve found myself the last couple of days being silent because I’ve been so sad and so hurt by what’s going on,” she said on Facebook.

Payne said she lives about 30 minutes from Dallas, where five police officers were killed in a sniper attack during a peaceful Black Lives Matter protest on Thursday. People had gathered in response to the deaths of Alton Sterling in Louisiana on Tuesday and Philando Castile in Minnesota on Wednesday at the hands of other police officers.

In response to the days of violence, Payne said she just wanted to share an arrangement of a song that “really meant something amazing” to her — Michael Jackson’s “Heal the World.”

“Heal the world. Make it a better place for you and for me and the entire human race,” she sang. “There are people dying. If you care enough for the living, make a better place.”
