Chez Panisse 40th Anniversary Lunch With Alice Waters: What's On The Menu?

$5 Lunch With Alice Waters? Here's What's On The Menu

Rumors of the events surrounding next week's 40th anniversary of legendary restaurant Chez Panisse have been spreading faster than rumors of a new pop-up dinner.

We've heard about a pig roast in Michael Pollan's backyard, a Provençal dinner with Traci Des Jardins and Scribe winery in Berkeley, a Napa garden party with Cowgirl Creamery and other deliciously fabulous parties. And while each of these sounds mouthwatering, we've lost our appetites at the $500 to $2000 per person price tag.

In fairness, all funds raised benefit the Edible Schoolyard Project at Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary, and we've no doubt that every seat will be filled. But we wanted in on the celebration, too.

Enter the Edible Schoolyard Project and Levi's. Next Wednesday, the hungry FiDi crowd can head to Maiden Lane for a boxed lunch, served by St. Waters herself. For a $5 suggested donation, you can brighten up your cube with a local, organic boxed lunch from the Edible Schoolyard, and pick up one of the Edible Schoolyard celebrity-designed Levi's t-shirts afterward. Here's what's on the menu:

  • Soul Food Farms smoked chicken sandwich with Little City Gardens greens, Dirty Girl Early Girl tomatoes, basil, aioli and harissa on an Acme roll
  • Annabelle's cucumber pickles with little radishes
  • Fresh figs and grapes

Yum! Details are still TBD, but rumor has it, some of the celebrity designers will be onsite to help hand out boxed lunches. And when designers include Dave Eggers, Sofia Coppola, David Byrne and Maira Kalman, we don't mind waiting in line.

Bring your five spot to Maiden Lane next Wednesday, August 24th at 12:30 to claim your cubicle lunch dominance.
