Chicago Parking Meter Rates To Rise In 2012

Starting Jan. 1, 2012, Chicago parking meters are facing rate increases between 25 and 50 cents citywide.

The rate adjustments will begin in the Loop, where it will now cost $5.75 per hour to park between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m., ABC Chicago reports. In the surrounding central business district, parking will cost $3.50 an hour, and in the rest of the city the rate will be $1.75 per hour.

"As the rate transition moves forward, the parking public is only responsible for paying the posted rate on the meters," Chicago Parking Meters LLC said in a statement, NBC Chicago reports. "Accordingly, only the posted rates on each meter/pay box will be enforced."

The posted price adjustments are expected to be in effect citywide by the end of January, according to ABC.
