The Destruction Left Behind After Chile's Earthquake (PHOTOS)

Hundreds were evacuated after a 7.6-magnitude aftershock rattled Chile's northern coast Wednesday night, the Associated Press reports. The area had already been hit by an 8.2-magnitude earthquake on Tuesday, which caused six deaths, extensive damage, and tsunami warnings in multiple countries.

The aftershock shook buildings and created panic among residents in the port of Iquique, one of the cities impacted by the quake on Tuesday, but no new casualties or damages were reported as of Wednesday night.

In 2010, a magnitude-8.8 quake hit central Chile and triggered a tsunami which collectively killed more than 500 people and destroyed 220,000 homes according to the Associated Press. The earthquake released enough energy to change the rotation of the Earth for a fraction of second.
