Chime for Change: Girls, Women, and a Connection That Empowers Us

In the workplace, in the media, everywhere, we're seeing a shift that is granting more value to what were traditionally considered feminine traits. And men and women alike are tapping into these traits, which will lead us into a more compassionate future: more heart, more nurturing, more collaboration.

At HuffPost, we're committed to putting the spotlight on organizations driving this shift. One of those is Chime for Change. Founded by Gucci, it's a new global campaign focused on girls' and women's empowerment and raising funds for nonprofits working to improve their lives. I'm delighted to be among Chime's advisory board members, and I hope that HuffPost's platform -- with its power to help girls and women connect and tell their stories -- will further Chime's mission to draw attention to the areas around the world where women are making strides, and where there is still work to be done when it comes to education, health, and justice. As Chime's manifesto puts it, "Thanks to technology, women across the world have the ability to connect in ways unimaginable to those who went before us. We believe that connection empowers us."

Chime for Change, which brings together a range of voices, from women's advocates and experts to business leaders and philanthropists, is seizing a moment in which girls' and women's issues are in many ways front and center -- from crimes against women in places as different as Delhi and Steubenville, Ohio, to the perseverance of Malala Yousafzai, the 15-year-old Pakistani girl shot as she was returning from school. And because there are plenty of issues facing women that haven't received media coverage -- such as the fact that two-thirds of the world's illiterate adults are women -- Chime aims to raise money and raise awareness to help bring about the changes so many women need.

Chime's co-founders -- Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, Salma Hayek Pinault and Gucci creative director Frida Giannini -- know a little about using their talents to bring attention to worthy causes. (They have big plans to put girls and women on the world stage, and will be making an exciting announcement later this month.) And they're committed to using all the tools at our disposal, especially social media, to spark a movement with girls and women at the center. As Frida writes in her post introducing Chime for Change, "We don't need to wait for governments to act, or laws to change. The opportunities are out there. And there isn't a moment to waste."
