Good news, vegetarians!
Beginning on Oct. 21, Chipotle Mexican Grill will be offering a new spicy, shredded tofu "Sofritas" option in the Midwest market, including all 83 of its Chicago-area restaurants, the Denver-based Mexican chain announced late last week.
The option is also newly arriving at the chain's Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia and Richmond locations on Oct. 21.
Chipotle debuted the organic, non-GMO tofu option in partnership with Oakland-based Hodo Soy earlier this year in California and the Pacific Northwest and tasted, according to some, something like scrambled eggs.
The expanded "Sofritas" test also coincides with National Vegetarian Awareness Month, the chain noted. The length of the test will depend on its sales performance in the new regions, the Chicago Tribune reports.
