Chord Overstreet OUT At 'Glee': Darren Criss A Series Regular, Overstreet's Option Decline

HUGE 'Glee' Cast Shakeup: Which Star Is OUT Of The Show?

It looks like Sam Evans will be a transfer student once again -- this time, away from McKinley High.

Chord Overstreet, who played the football playing New Directions member in the second season of "Glee," has had his series regular option declined by creator Ryan Murphy and staff, TV Line reports. An integral part of the season, he featured in an is-or-isn't-he gay storyline before -- unsuccessfully -- offering cheerleader Quinn a promise ring.

There is a chance that Overstreet could return in guest appearances.

Interestingly, Overstreet told Ryan Seacrest last October that the Evans character was originally written as a boyfriend for Chris Colfer's character, Kurt Hummel, but thanks to his chemistry with Diana Agron, who plays Quinn, the writing staff changed the character's orientation.

The new cast member that eventually did become Kurt's boyfriend, Darren Criss's Blaine, got better news on Friday, as he was upgraded to series regular. Harry Shum, Jr., who plays Mike, also got the bump up to the regular cast.
"Glee" will add a new cast member through its summer reality series, "The Glee Project," and will see major turnover after this season, when it graduates several of its cast members, including Cory Monteith.
