Chris Evans is planning on stretching his newfound freedom from the “Captain America” franchise with a Broadway play.
According to Playbill, the action star is confirmed for his first ever Broadway role in “Lobby Hero,” set for March 2018. The role will still be somewhat of a thriller for Evans, since “Lobby Hero” is a play about four New Yorkers who are involved in a murder.
Evans is only one of a few famous names attached to the project. Oscar-winning writer Kenneth Lonergan, best known for “Manchester by the Sea,” wrote the show and premiered it back in 2001. And Evans will have another familiar, if surprising, famous co-star: Michael Cera.
Remember the last time these two were together?
The duo worked together once before in the hit comedy “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” in which Evans threw Cera around like a rag doll over a girl. “Lobby Hero” may be slightly less fun, serving up the moral questions of emotion versus principles, set entirely in the lobby of a Manhattan apartment building.
The lobby itself serves as a “testing ground for what happens when personal and professional personas find themselves at odds.”
“Lobby Hero” is only the second project Evans has announced after his “Captain America” run finishes later this year. In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres earlier this month, Evans mentioned starring in her film “Jekyll” with Lionsgate.
Evans and Cera will begin their official run together in March 2018 at Helen Hayes Theatre with Second Stage Theatre. No other cast members have been announced.
