Chris Martin Fondly Recalls That Time Beyoncé Said His Song Was Awful

Bey, being Bey, shut him down "in the sweetest way possible."

They say behind every great man, there's an even greater woman. Such is the case with Chris Martin and Beyoncé.

The Coldplay frontman opens up to Rolling Stone's latest issue about his relationship with Queen Bey, admitting that he values her opinion of his work. (But honestly, who wouldn't?)

In the interview, Martin explains that he once played a song called "Hook Up" for Bey and her production team, Stargate. After he presented it, the "Formation" singer turned it down "in the sweetest possible way," he says. "She told me, 'I really like you -- but this is awful."

But Beyoncé isn't the first person who's ever disliked something Coldplay's put out there. In fact, Martin is well aware that plenty of people just don't like his band, though, he's not really sure why.

"I had a couple of years in the mid-2000s where it was really confusing to me," he tells the mag. "I was like, 'Why is our band sometimes a punch line?'"

Unfortunately for Coldplay, the jokes kept coming after their Super Bowl 50 halftime performance, during which Bey and Bruno Mars stole the show.

We guess some things never change.
