Chris Matthews Confronts Heckler Who Called Obama 'Communist'

WATCH: Matthews Confronts Obama Heckler

Chris Matthews confronted a heckler who called President Obama a "Communist" ahead of Thursday's vice-presidential debate.

He was with the crowd outside of Centre College in Danville, Kentucky, where the debate will be held. Matthews was speaking to an Obama supporter when another woman in the crowd yelled, "Communist!"

He went to her moments later and asked her to explain what she meant.

“All you have to do is study it out," she said. "Just study it out. And you’ll see. You haven’t done your homework, buddy."

“What do I need to study?” the MSNBC host asked.

“He’s a communist,” she alleged. “And those of us who are not voting for him know it.”

“And what do you mean by ‘communist’?” Matthews pressed.

“You don’t know?” she shot back. After some more back-and-forth, Matthews pressed, “I just want to know what you mean."

Her answer was, “Oh, I know what I mean."

“Well, help us out. You’re on national television,” he said. She told Matthews again to "just study it out." He then asked her if she believes the president is an American.

“No. Just because he was born here doesn’t mean he thinks like us. He’s a communist, buddy," she said, as the crowd booed and Matthews walked away.
